What happens at an Areola Consultation?
AREOLA REPIGMENTATION CONSULTATION
The aim of nipple and areola micropigmentation is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the breast. This is done by recreating a nipple and areola that mirrors an existing nipple and areola or recreating a matching set. Each person's needs will be different. At the consultation you will tell us about your expectations. Then a plan can be created to met those expectations.

AREOLA/NIPPLE TATTOO

The final step of breast reconstruction is to get a 3D nipple tattoo after any of these procedures: breast reconstruction surgery, mastectomy, breast reduction, or breast implants. This gives back the color and creates the illusion of natural skin texture and offers you a chance to change the areola’s shape or color of the nipples with pigments, and gives you full control over how a part of your body looks.
DOES IT HURT?
As a breast cancer survivor, if you’re looking at getting an areola tattoo, then pain may not be something you have to worry about. It’s extremely common for mastectomy surgery to lead to breast numbness. Any surgery causes nerve damage and reduced sensation. During a micropigmentation procedure, you may experience tingling or feel uncomfortable. If you have an implant, you may feel it vibrate throughout the micropigmentation process. If you never had breast surgery, and are opting for an aesthetic areola tattoo, then you could experience pain due to the sensitivity of this area.
WHAT IS THE AREOLA REPIGMENTATION PROCEDURE OR PROCESS?
After cleaning the area, and applying numbing cream, (to reduce the feeling of pain), your permanent makeup artist will apply pigmented ink into the top layer of the skin to create a semi-permanent areola image. The artist must blend and feather the colors to achieve a realistic look. The artist's talent and, ink can add an areola and/or nipple where one did not exist or change the existing areola's shape and/or nipple's shape. Micropigmentation enhances the skin with the appearance of the nipple and areola with pigment colors. Repigmentation recolors the nipple and areola area when the color fades. HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
The entire appointment for both unilateral and bilateral breast tattoo typically takes up to 3 hours.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?
Your areola tattoo will take approximately 10-14 days to heal. The condition of your skin will affect the healing time. Faithfully following the aftercare guidelines will speed up your healing and enhance your satisfaction.
In the weeks following, your tattoo procedure, the healing of your areola ink will go through these three stages: healing, peeling and lightening.
PREPARATION FOR MICROPIGMENTATION
- Avoid alcohol, wines,aspirin,caffeine and fish oil for at 24 hours.
- Don't do any peels before treatments.
- Don't go sunbathing or tanning.
If you take blood thinners, ask your Primary care physician, if it's okay to stop taking them for a few days before your appointment.
